A too common sight: a victim of the man-elephant conflict in NE India.

Love or hate? Elephants and people struggle to live
in harmony

The relationship between elephants and humans goes back in time thousand of years. Venerated as the living symbol of a Hindu God, elephants enjoy the respect and love of the people of India. Domestic elephants are widely used as a work force all across the country.

But the conflict started as the human population increased relentlessly and took over the habitat of wild elephants. The situation is worsening every day. Farmers and wild elephants are struggling to live in the same space. Both sides need land, forest, food and water to survive.

Will this battle come to a peaceful end?
